RomaBella BCN

As you may already know, I’m kind of a big foodie. I love my food. Especially the kind of food that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside when you eat it.

Another thing I love is when I walk into a new place, not expecting much, and then walk out again feeling all excited. It’s as if I just hit the jackpot!

For me, RomaBella BCN was exactly one of those places. It’s one of the reasons I felt it worth sharing with you too.

When I first walked into RomaBella, I wasn’t really thinking that it was anything special. I had wanted to visit once before, because I had seen some reviews online that seemed good. My plans got sidetracked though and so I never managed it.

Then one day, my friend Rich and I were looking for a quick eat nearby my house that wasn’t his usual haunt “The Green Room”. I suggested we finally visit this place and boy am I glad we did – it’s become a regular ever since!

Getting there

The closest metro station to the restaurant is Poblenou. It’s about 6 minutes away on foot and is the main station for the San Martí district. My favourite district in Barcelona (though I may be biased as I live around there!).

There’s just such a great atmosphere in the area. It’s laid back and yet busy at the same time. It’s also outside the city centre, which I love and means you’ll find predominantly locals here too.

Landing in front of the restaurant, you wouldn’t think it’s anything special. It just looks like a cheap hole in the wall pizza place… and yet… it’s not just that.

Keep reading and you’ll see why!

Sit down and feel at home

RomaBella BCN is cosy – there’s no other way to call it. It’s got enough seating for around 16-20 people at the most, and once you sit down there’s just something about it…

Perhaps it’s the rustic furniture, or the open kitchen. It could be the fact that on any given day you may find people singing along to the music playing in the background, or the chefs and cashiers joking around with each other.

It could also simply be the fantastic aromas that follow scrumptious pizza. Whatever it is though, it’s definitely got a real atmosphere of home, comfort and good times to it.

One of the many reasons I love it so much!

Ordering the best pizza in town

Perhaps one day I will change my mind about the pizza at BellaRoma BCN. It may be that one day I find a place that can top the joy that eating their delicious pizza brings me. However, right now I stand firm in my evaluation that RomaBella BCN has the best pizza in all of Barcelona!

It’s crispy on the outside, soft and doughy on the inside and the ingredients and taste are deliciously and mouth-wateringly fresh. I’m starting to get hungry just thinking about it now…

When you walk into RomaBella BCN you have the option to either take a seat and eat in or order and take away. Whichever option you choose though, you will be asked to take a look and order what you like from the pizza counter at the entrance.

The ordering experience here has always been a basic one. Quick ordering, no fuss. The staff behind the counter always seem to be super laid back and never in a hurry, which is nice.

I’ve never had to wait very long to order as I usually go before it gets busy. However, I could imagine waiting at the end of the long long lines that form at peak hours could get a little annoying. I’m not sure what I’d do in that case. Perhaps wait and make friends in line? Customers certainly seem high spirited enough for it. A common (and welcome) trait in Spain, I’ve found!

Most of the people working at RomaBella BCN seem to be pure Spanish speakers. That being the case, come prepared to whip out your basic Spanish skills if needed – I’m pretty sure you’ll get a smile in return if you do!

There was a female cashier we ordered from once who seemed to be able to speak some basic English. My friend Rich, who doesn’t speak Spanish, took full advantage of that.

Having said that, I reckon if push came to shove, you could get away with pointing at a pizza and signing the quantity of slices you want though. No need to complicate things, right?

Size matters… and so does the price

Whether you are a vegetarian or a meat-eater, you’ll be well looked after at RomaBella BCN. Personally, I’m a huge fan of their pepperoni pizza and what looks like a Quattro Staggioni.

I don’t actually know the names of the pizzas as they don’t put them on display though. You can also choose your toppings if you want a whole pizza – and there are plenty of toppings to choose from.

One thing you will immediately notice when walking into the restaurant door though is the pizza sizes. They are quite magnificent, if I do say so myself!

If you take a look at the gratuitous picture I took of my friend Ineke enjoying her slice below, you’ll see what I mean. A pizza slice is literally the size of a person’s head – if not bigger.

At 2.00€/slice for a Margherita, and 2.50€/slice for all the other options, I’d say that’s a pretty sweet deal!

One time my friend Rich and I went halvesies on an XL pizza (the equivalent of 8 slices) with multiple toppings. That cost us 20€ in total.

I kid you not when I say the box for that pizza was almost half the size of me!

Don’t believe me? Just take a look at the picture below… no wonder I’ve been gaining weight recently!

The Verdict

I think you’ll be able to tell from how much I’ve been raving about this place that I’m a firm fan.

Take your family/boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse/whoever you wish and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

It’s not a large place or a fancy place, but it is a cheap and cheerful delight.

Offering delicious and simple food, a cosy feel and cheerful music in the background, it’s a great option for entertaining nights out or simply an impromptu pizza run.

I know I’ll continue visiting on the regular, but what about you?

Have I convinced you to come swing by? With humour like this, I think you’d be a fool not to try!

P.s. See what I did there… that last sentence rhymed… jajajajaja #dorkybloggerjokes
